One of the area's best amenities is the West Orange Trail. The popular 22-mile rail-trail connects several communities and neighborhoods in the Orlando area. As it meanders in and out of each community, the paved trail offers a unique glimpse into the region’s rapidly changing history for joggers, hikers or bike riders. Starting at Killarney Station, at the southern trailhead, the route goes northeast through Oakland. In addition to the Killarney Station trailhead, you can access the West Orange Trail via the Apopka Station in Apopka, the Chapin Station at Crown Point Cross Road in Winter Garden, or in the heart of town at the Winter Garden Station on Plant Street. In downtown Winter Garden, about a mile of the trail leads down the middle of Plant Street, allowing trail users to detour and browse the shops and restaurants. The trail also leads through thinly wooded areas, occasionally passing orange groves, and allowing equestrian use. The West Orange Trail is still growing, too. When complete, the greenway will stretch for 36 miles. It will also become part of the 250-mile Coast to Coast (C2C) Connector Trail providing a paved trail route from Florida's Atlantic Coast to its Gulf Coast.
